Altitude 3300 project
From 2025 to 2027, the Alpe d’Huez ski area will undergo a major transformation with an ambitious infrastructure modernization project.
The main goal is to replace several ski lifts in order to create a smooth and smart connection between all the resorts of the area (Alpe d’Huez, Auris-en-Oisans, Oz 3300, Vaujany, Villard-Reculas) and to make access easier to the iconic summit of Pic Blanc, at 3,300 meters of altitude (10,827 ft).
This project is part of a broader ambition to offer an accessible and inclusive experience for all: skiers, pedestrians, mountain bikers, people with reduced mobility (PRM), vacationers, and residents alike.
Key points of the project
The plan includes replacing the current ski lifts with five new modern and high-performance gondolas, designed to enhance comfort, reduce waiting times, and optimize travel within the ski area.
Step 1: Renovation of the Pic Blanc cable cars
Inaugurated on Friday, January 10, this first phase includes:
- The replacement of old cabins with new 23-seat cabins offering comfortable seating and panoramic views.
- Full renovation of the departure station.
- A slightly increased transport capacity to ease access to the ski area.
Step 2: Renovation of Poutran and Pic Blanc
- Replacement of the Poutran gondola with a 10-seat gondola connecting the 3,300 m summit to the main ski area.
- Replacement of the Rif Nel chairlift with a 10-seat gondola.
- Renovation of stations 2-3 at 2,100 metres altitude (6,890 feet) on the Pic Blanc gondola line.
- Replacement of the cabins of the Pic Blanc cable car.
Step 3: Renovation of Villard-Reculas and Pic Blanc
- Replacement of the Villardais chairlift with a 10-seat gondola to connect Villard-Reculas to the main ski area.
- Renovation of station 4 at 2,700 metres (8,858 feet) on the Pic Blanc gondola line.
Step 4: High altitude and Lièvre Blanc renovation
- Installation of the new Sarenne gondola.
- Renovation of the Pic Blanc cable car station at 3,300 metres (10,827 feet).
- Replacement of the Lièvre Blanc chairlift with a 10-seat gondola.
This ambitious project will transform the ski area into a modern, inclusive, and perfectly interconnected space, offering all visitors the opportunity to fully experience the mountains whatever the season or their activity, whether it’s leisure, sport, or simply enjoying the view.
