BY CAR
Getting to Alpe d’Huez by car is a unique experience thanks to its 21 iconic hairpin bends leading up to the resort. This famous road, regularly featured in the Tour de France, offers spectacular views over the Le Bourg-d’Oisans valley.
From Grenoble
Take the A480 towards Vizille / Briançon.
Exit at Vizille, then follow the D1091 to Le Bourg-d’Oisans.
The road begins gently through the valley, gradually revealing the mountains as they draw closer.

In Bourg-d’Oisans, the climb begins on the D211/D211A road leading up to Alpe d’Huez.
From Lyon
Take the A43 towards Grenoble, then join the A480 in the direction of Vizille / Briançon. Cross the hills and plains of the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region, with the Alps gradually appearing on the horizon.
Exit at Vizille, then follow the D1091 to Le Bourg-d’Oisans. The road runs alongside the river and already offers beautiful views over the valley and surrounding mountains.

Practical tips
Be careful of cyclists: Alpe d’Huez is an iconic destination for cyclists, both amateur and professional, especially in summer. The road can be very busy with groups and individual riders on the 21 hairpin bends.
Adjust your speed: slow down in the bends and anticipate overtaking situations to avoid any accidents.
Keep a safe distance: always leave enough space in front of and alongside cyclists, particularly on the climb from Le Bourg-d’Oisans.
BY BUS
It is easy to reach Alpe d’Huez by bus from the main cities and railway stations in the region. Regular services operate, particularly from Grenoble, Grenoble TGV station, and Le Bourg-d’Oisans, the gateway to the valley.
Once in Bourg-d’Oisans, shuttle buses and transport services are available to take you up to the resort via the famous winding mountain road. It is a simple, affordable and convenient way to reach the mountains without a car, while enjoying the spectacular scenery of the Oisans valley.
